Calcutta high court sets higher evidentiary standard for food adulteration

The Calcutta High Court has set aside a longstanding conviction, observing that only low fat content alone does not establish that curd is adulterated. Adulteration must be supported by evidence demonstrating harm, unfitness for consumption, or satisfaction of the statutory definition. The Court also cited shortcomings in sample handling and evidentiary proof.
