Rabies vaccine batch flagged as substandard amid suspected counterfeit concerns

India’s drug regulator has flagged a batch of a widely used rabies vaccine as “Not of Standard Quality” after a field sample failed potency testing. The seized vials also showed discrepancies in labelling, packaging, QR-code verification and licence details, prompting an investigation into whether the product is spurious. The incident highlights the public-health risks posed by counterfeit vaccines and the need for stronger supply-chain traceability, batch verification and regulatory surveillance
